Organic Chew Toy
Kiddo got sick last night. Some sort of stomach bug and was losing a lot of fluids. I got some fresh coconuts to give him coconut water
They were very good, so I opened them up for the tender coconut inside. Dongsira performed his vacuum duty and picked up a few pieces that had fallen off the island. Figured the halves would be a good distraction for dogs.
I planted some bulbs yesterday, and a freeze warning showed up for tonight. False spring strikes again.
Commentator's Curse
Wednesday morning at school drop-off, Kiddo looking at the Carplay Apple Maps, called out that the internal roads within the school complex were missing. My explanation to him was centered around privacy and we talked about restricted access buildings and possible safety issues around information access.
Thursday morning at school drop-off, the entire school was mapped out to the last millimeter on Apple Maps.
Rivian shot a bullet through Subaru with today’s announcements. Outback/Forrester clientele would be prime markets for R2 and Crosstek for R3.
Of course Rivian still have to ship these but the Solterra slip up now seems even worse for Subaru.
Apple Vision Pro Demo - First thoughts
The immersive experience demo at the end is probably where it’s at for both monetization as well as the peak of what this device can deliver, especially the speakers and display.
Maybe I’m wrong, and the spatial computing aspect kicks on to be a revolution, and compared to the Quest 2 usage and original Oculus Rift demo at the Microsoft store, one can see how well the VisionOS UI is done with the gaze/attention detection that is very well the right direction, but boy those sports demos were surreal, especially the MB Stadium ATL UTD one given that I’ve experienced the real one from that very angle.
A terrifying picture
Interviewing at Startups vs Big Tech has been a such a contrasting experience. It may end up boiling down to individuals, but the trend has been that the Startups are far more empathetic in expressing the team-fit needs as opposed to using the time for technical one-upmanship.
Best part about For All Mankind’s Season Finale was the lack of code review for the file upload of the RPC.
Also S-band FTW.
Progress is never free
“I’ve always been captivated with the idea of justice. It’s what attracted me to engineering in the first place, the sense of right and wrong, that I was in control.
But the truth is, the world is not as simple as we want it to be. It can’t just be boiled down into an equation. Especially when it comes to Human Beings. We are flawed, unpredictable, and full of contradictions.
It’s taken me most of my life to realize it’s exactly these traits that make us so resilient. That give credence to the improbable idea that anything is possible.
Even in the darkest of times.
Your Honor, I was always told that we shouldn’t let personal feelings cloud our search for the truth. But looking back now, I don’t think that’s right.
Our feelings may not be convenient. They may even slow our progress. But they are also the only way to truly begin to understand the world around us. And the new worlds that await us. "

A colleague that I meet weekly on Tuesdays over VC over the past year, passed away over the Thanksgiving break.
If I’d learn anything from her, it would be how to shepherd a conversation going sideways between belligerent parties.
YouTube Music recommendations are finally reaching 2015 Spotify levels.
Creepy but Neat.
Got to give it to The Container Store’s web presence.
I vaguely remember registering at their SJC Santa Row store in 2015. I gave an old phone number and email, to make returns easy. I’d never used their online store, always made purchases in the store, and always gave that phone number to pull up the account. After moving to ATL, I bought some glass containers, some of whose metal parts got rusted while in storage, so I wanted to look up the exact SKUs to see what my options are.
I’d assumed I’d created an account, but there were no email receipts. On attempting a password reset, for which, after confirming with an email OTP code, they notified me that I’d never completed my account setup with that email. Few more steps of account creation and
login, they had every in-store receipt available.
We’ve assigned an ottoman of the new sofa for these fellas and they seem to love lounging on it whenever they get a chance.
This snap last night was after 6 miles of walking in addition to their regular backyard time.
Caught the first episode of All The Light We Cannot See - the SS officer scenes had a treatment similar to the vibe from Season 2 Boardwalk Empire.

Catching up with Lightyear after the Japanese GP and Mo Morrisson’s voice was switching between Australian and Scottish accents before I could figure out that it was Taika Waititi.
